ReplyDeleteI found Hair Art on my own. Because this is Hollywood, I assume there are many more in my area. When I went, they told me it cost from a few hundred to a few thousands, depending on whether it is a small piece or a large piece. Also depends on hairstyle, if back then it needs a high quality so that it looks natural. I assume, as it is pointed in this article, that density is important.
They talked me out of it, saying it is too early and I should come back later if I need one. I trust them, but maybe I am wrong. I asked for a complete list of cost and maintenance. They can do basic maintenance like haircut but can be done by yourself or your own stylist.
They recommend having two, so that one you wear and the second when it needs to be fixed, like adding hair, coloring, and such. They said that each can last a year, or it can last more. It depends on hairline, depends on your activity, if you are very active in sports or work outside sweating you will likely replace them sooner. If you clip instead of glue, it will last longer, but if you clip you can't brush it back because it may show. You are already paying for hair cuts, and this is slightly more---free if you do it yourself. We are talking about cutting natural hair to match piece, and gluing/attaching piece. If you have some hair growing under the piece, and you glue it, you will need to shave it off every so often so it glues better.
Go to multiple places. Get a quote. They all want your money. Choose the best quality relative to price.
I originally took finasteride, but stopped because of potential long-term side effects. I then took minoxidil but stopped years later because of constant itching, dry skin, eczema, hives. I don't take any other drugs. It made my face look 10 years older. I stopped, but it will take months, maybe a year, for my skin to improve. I also went to surgical place, probably the top, years in the business and they serve celebrities and billionaires, has been on national TV shows. I took back my deposit (you need to put a deposit to schedule a surgery). I took it back because you will need multiple, and they can't tell you because they don't know (they don't know final price, but can give a range), and they ask you to take finasteride, Rogaine / minoxidil forever so that future hair loss is gradual, and the operation will look natural. What is the point, if you continue to take drugs with known side effects?
Finally, after a decade, my solution is non-surgical, aka hair piece. I never imagined that, but hey that is life. Shave it off or get a hair piece.

ReplyDeleteFrom my visit with them, they told me I don't need to go to them, I can do it on my own or go to regular stylist.
Here is an example of doing it on your own: If the piece is 6", then you remove it, clean/shave underneath, and cut your natural hair to 6". I guess you can cut it all to 6" if they are all 6". This is how you completely avoid ongoing maintenance cost, and just pay for piece, new or fixing. If it is glued properly it should blend in even if you do it on your own.
